Tree Falls on Car. I Can't Believe I got this on Camera!
So this happened... Just glad nobody was hurt. The tree was perfectly healthy the day before with no signs of any problems, but it had just rained hard for a few days to the combination of the wet ground and wind was able to knock down this beautiful tree.
I knocked on all my neighbors doors to try and find the car owners before it fell all the way, but unfortunately nobody was home at the time. While it's unfortunate the car was damaged, I'm impressed with the structural integrity of the roof considering it was struck by a tree of that size.

I Managed to Create an Electric Dredge with Good Suction.
Переглядів 1,7 тис.Місяць тому
So I have been sick for the last month, but I'm feeling better now! In this video I go over a few of the things I've learned while designing an electric 2" dredge with good suction. The 3D printer has been doing it's job very well and we're definitely on the right track to produce a good 2" dredge that can run off a battery and be used silently out in the field in remote locations. Right now I ...
Which Type of Gold Dredge Jet is Most Efficient?
Переглядів 1,4 тис.2 місяці тому
I tested an infinity jet, also known as a 360 degrees ring jet, and compared it to a single jet log, a double jet log, and a suction nozzle to see what one was most efficient for use in the electric gold dredge project. And don't worry, I'll definitely keep working away at this 2" dredge project until I can get a working version... It may just take some time.

I went through over 30 Impeller designs to get a winner, so I won't bore you to death with all the testing I did behind the scenes. Electric Gold Dredge: Impeller Testing Process.
Переглядів 1,4 тис.3 місяці тому
I've been working away at setting up this scientific testing station so that I can get some more scientific results to work with when designing impellers. I was able to capture results for the stock impeller that comes included with the seaflo 2000GPH bilge pump. I then tested a 3D printed impeller and found it performed objectively worse in almost every way, while actually consuming more power...

It's been a busy month, but I'm making progress towards setting up the bilge pump impeller test station. For context, I want to create pump charts to accurately measure the output of some custom 3D printed bilge pump impellers that I plan to use to create a more efficient electric gold dredge. Perhaps an impeller with a high head pressure will prove useful to those running electric highbankers ...

I have a lot of work to do, but I managed to get an initial test in to see if the 3D printed impellers I have been designing are in the right ballpark to actually work. The long term goal of this project is to gather information on suction gold dredge eductor venturi efficiency and ultimately design for a subsurface find gold dredge to be used in Nome Ak.

You SHOULD have a hard time believing that. I always took the rumors and legends of gold like this with a grain of salt until I started finding them. I guess a few things to put it into perspective, it takes much more than two hours to find a location in the first place, and after the small but concentrated paystreak has been dug out, it's not like we can continue finding gold that good for the rest of the day. It it very cool to see that there IS really profitable ground still out there and so close to home. I've spent many many days out on the river finding nothing...

Hey Kyle, I'm in the "build my own highbanker/buy a pump" phase of my adventure in gold mining/prospecting. What do you think is the ideal pump for a high banker like your Utmost Explorer maybe 1.5X the size? Looking at the BE Power Equipment WP2065HL (Honda Motor) available at Napa. I'd run a ball valve & reducer from 2" to 1.5" , so I can use 1.5" camlocks/ pvc... etc. Would u be so kind to comment & give me feedback (I'll browse thru my history & re-watch some of the videos I've already seen of yours.. I recall u using a Honda WX15 .. ) but I figured I'd try this instead...to streamline the learning curve, since you have more experience now! Cheers mate!

    • @UtmostOutdoors

I might have to give you a better answer later, so standby for that... I think every time I've come up with a setup I'm happy with, it has been as a result of visiting the place I'm going to mine and realizing all the fine details I forgot to account for in my planning stages... It's an iterative process sometimes, but one thing I've never regretted is making things light weight. I imagine not needing something so light I can pack it 5km deep into the wilderness, but then in reality even a half km walk from the car to the river gets you wishing you had a lighter setup, and you would be surprised how much material a small electric highbanker is capable of moving in some situations. The reason I started out with the Honda WX15 was due to the sub 20lbs weight compared to those larger pumps... the cost was a big negative there though. Tell me more about where you plan to mine (vaguely here, or email me) Something like the Utmost adventurer is a serious machine that combines a highbankers ability to chew through gravel and be compact, with the 20" wide recovery abilities of a beach box, and I think it is large enough to practically deserve a gas water supply for extended trips, but what I've learned of electric bilge pumps and lithium deep cycle batteries being very affordable these days, it's not out of the question you could even run something like that off battery power if you were close to the water's edge. So a smaller electric setup may be an affordable AND practical way to start out. Something to consider. Again, let me know more about you're plans and I'll give this some more thought.

The amount of magnetite in the beach gold varies from about 30% to a bit greater than 50%. We mine only the black sand and intentionally avoid the blonds. Think of zebra stripes of black and blond sands. Only some of the black sand has gold. I usually only mine when I get 20-40 (or greater) colors per pan (a couple pinches of sand). It is better to try to pan just a couple pinches of sand rather than a shovel full - You'll be panning for an hour to test. It's fun but takes a lot of work. If you find a good spot to work and are there for a week - you may find an ounce. State rules require some prep so study up and get the right paperwork.

You couldn’t be more wrong with your “with the tunnel yes, without the tunnel, no” comment. You don’t need a tunnel hull with a jet to run in 2” of water. We run in 2-2.5” of water with a flat bottom boat all the time.

    • @UtmostOutdoors
      @UtmostOutdoors 5 днів тому

I'm sure I could be MORE wrong... I'm always impressed by how shallow these jet drives run. I guess I meant you can't go so shallow that the hull hits without hitting the intake grate. Since the intake grate hangs down a couple inches bellow the hull. Although it looks like a lot of folks just let the outboard bounce off rocks in the super skinny water areas...

    • @RockinLOutfitters

@@UtmostOutdoors again, you can run 2”-2.5” of water and never touch a thing with a standard flat bottom boat with an outboard jet. Boat setup is 80% of it. Just calling a spade a spade. A lot of mercury is on gold since people used mercury to grab gold. Distilling it off is stupidly simple as shown. The mercury vapor form this small of a still is so little that a passive cooled retort is fine. Save the mercury as its quite htf and valuable. If you want extra credit for your retort you can hewt it very strongly with a graphite insert to make a nuce gold button. Induction heating is the best, propane is the most common and charcoal is cheapest. To evaporate the mercury, red hot is fine. To actually melt the gold its a bright yellow orange heat. ❤

The Rough top conveyor belt used in a gold cube should work, I have seen people using the VRD matting on beach sand also. Most mats will work well if you classify the material to keep larger rocks out of your sluice and run a low slope with slow water flow. Personally, I currently use miners moss with expanded metal on top when I am out digging, and then run a rubber mat later on at home for my cleanouts. The miners moss hold a large amount of black sand which is annoying, but seems to bring home the most gold at the end of the day. I will update my thoughts at some point in the future if I am able to do better tests.

If you're just pumping along level ground and not high enough up to max out the head, the water will travel the 1000ft, but you should just expect not to have a very high flow rate due to line losses. I'd be curious what your flow rate is after that length of hose. Let us know if you test it!

I guess it mainly just comes down to selecting the correct size nozzle to drill... I've had success in the past by drilling a bunch of holes at an angle around an abs plumbing pipe, then fitting a water jacket around the ring of holes... but then here I've found a basic suction nozzle has the best performance so far and would be quite simple to make DIY. I like seaflow because of all the cheapo pumps they seem to be available globally so I can use what's available in Canada/USA as well as Australia. Best of luck with the project!

The owner was out for the day. We went door to door earlier to try and warn them to move it before it was too late.

A good 4wd and a chain could of dragged is out of the way, but someone has to get in the danger zone to hook it up. I'm sure they have insurance, if the main roof body is squished, it's a write-off.👍👌🇦🇺

@@UtmostOutdoors Thank you for doing your due diligence. I miss the days when people all knew their neighbors and would have been able to reach them and warn them.

This type of question regarding location is one I will never answer. If I give a good spot to the world, then people who know of that spot will have a problem with me, and the person asking will get a spot that immediately looses it's value. I would not give up on Prospectors Point as a place to learn your gear. After the spring floods that bar was a historically rich spot, and depending on the floods some years you will have no problem finding a gram in a day if you get to a hot spot before the crowds do. Otherwise just set yourself up to have a look around that river both within edmonton city limits and upstream or downstream. There are paystreaks all over the place, but you will spend a full weekend just panning to find one at first. The faster you switch from panning to sluicing, the less time you will have to put into locating hot spots. A tip would be don't just assume gold is heavy and the best gold is always at the waters edge, many good paystreaks are way up out of the river and near the bushes along the edges, other times gold is mixed with larger gravel, other times in light dustings of sand. There are lots of other locations to try you can find with a keen eye if you just google around a bit. Just want to say, no harm in asking, and I wish you the best of luck out there, but locations are just something I don't do. Cheers! :)
